Day 1: South Africa – Mozambique (Bilene)

Our tour starts off with a drive from the top of the plateau down towards Nelspruit, stopping en-route for breakfast (own cost).  From here we go past the southern point of the Kruger National Park to the border of Mozambique.  Once across the border we will make our way to the tropical beaches of Bilene.  Our evening ends with a typical Mozambican dinner at the on-site restaurant.

Day 2: Bilene

After an early morning swim in the clear waters of the inland lake that stretches for 27 km, breakfast is served, after which you can relax on the beach at our campsite.  We will enjoy a boat ride across the lake to the shores of the Indian Ocean, after which your local guide will take you for a short walk along the beach to the look-out where at most times of the year you can see the turtles that dwell in the tropical waters of Bilene.  The rest of the day you can relax on the beach, chat to the locals, and watch the local fisherman bringing in their catch.  This is an excellent time to immerse yourself in their culture and get to know how the locals live.  There is a local market where you can find an assortment of curios, and a walk through the town is a must.

Day 3: Morrungulo

Leaving the inland lakes of Bilene behind us, we make our way further north through the towns of Xai Xai and Maxixe (where inland lakes add to the beauty of the area) and on through the coconut plantations to the tropical beaches of Morrungulo.  A late afternoon swim in the warm Indian Ocean is a must.

Days 4, 5: Bazaruto Archipelago

The road continues north from here, where the coconut trees take up most of the space in this once forgotten country.  We make our way up to the Bazaruto Archipelago, where the islands give you a feeling once only experienced by the explorers of the past. A Dhow trip out to one of the islands will be organized on Day 5, and our local guides will cook us a feast on the beach for lunch.  Snorkeling at one of the reefs in the area is a must, with its many species of fish, and, at times, the Green and Leather-Back Turtles and Manta Rays. Fresh seafood and catch of the day are one of the attractions of this area. Dugongs (Manatees) and Flamingoes are also seen at certain times of the year in the waters of the archipelago.

Meals:  Breakfast, 1 x Lunch, Dinner

Budget Tour:  Twin rooms

Days 6, 7, 8: Barra Reef Beach

Leaving the islands behind we make our way back south through the coconut plantations to the town of Inhambane, with one of the best curio markets in Mozambique.  After a visit to the market, we will head towards Barra Reef Beach.  The warm tropical waters of Barra attract many species of fish and other sea dwelling creatures such as Green and Leather-Back Turtles, Manta Rays and the Whale Shark, the majestic giant of the sea. If you are a diver there will be time for you to do a dive or two in the next couple of days.  If you are not already a diver, why not try a resort course?  And if you would like to learn how to surf, you will have the opportunity to take some classes.

Days 9, 10: Tofo

Leaving Barra Reef, a short drive takes us to Tofo Beach for the next 2 days.  The days here are spent lazing in the sun, swimming in the tropical sea, playing beach volleyball and walking down to the beach bar for sundowners.  The small town of Tofo also has its own small curio and food market and one or two restaurants where they serve great seafood and other local dishes typical of Mozambique.  Your guide will organize your Ocean Safari for you whilst here, which is included in the tour.  Tofo also offers you some of the best night life in the area.

Day 11: Mozambique – South Africa (Marloth Park)

After time spent on the pristine beaches, our journey takes us back to South Africa, bypassing Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique.  Once across the border, it is just a short drive to Marloth Park, where we will spend the night.

Marloth Park is a wildlife sanctuary close to the Kruger National Park, where you are very likely to see animals such as warthog and impala in the streets and gardens.  This being the last night of the tour, we will enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants.
